Dragon Boat Festival Holiday May 31st-June 2nd

 

The Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. With a history of over 2,000 years, it honors the patriotic poet Qu Yuan and embodies Chinese cultural traditions.

 

Key festival activities include dragon boat races, where teams paddle vibrant boats rhythmically to drumbeats, echoing the legend of searching for Qu Yuan. Eating zongzi is also essential. These dumplings, made of glutinous rice with fillings like red beans or meats, wrapped in bamboo leaves, are often prepared by families together. Additionally, people hang mugwort and calamus to ward off evil, wear herb - filled sachets, and may travel or visit relatives. Outdoor leisure, such as park strolls, is common too.
